Measuring epistemic beliefs
For some time now, I've been using the FEE (Fragebogen zur Erfassung Epistemischer Überzeugungen) to measure young students' epistemic beliefs. Compared to earlier instruments (Epistemological Questionnaire, Schommer 1990; Epistemic Beliefs Inventory, Schraw, Bendixen & Dunkle 2002; Epistemological Beliefs Survey, Wood & Kardash 2002) Moschner & Gruber (2010) have includes several new dimensions (gender, social and cultural aspects andn a value aspect) in their instrument, and actually achieved higher reliability scores than previous instruments.
However, I'm not quite convinced about those new dimensions. Moreover, Moschner & Gruber have omitted the dimension "Structure of knowledge", which was included in all previous instruments. I think that this dimension should be included since I think it may provide some information about the domain specific differences in epistemic beliefs.
Still working on that ...
My research blog
H!
This is my research blog where I occasionally try to write down some reflexions regarding my research process. Unfortunately it seems those occasions happen rather seldom ;-)
However, if you're interested in epistemic beliefs a.k.a. personal epistemologies, feel free to comment my thoughts!
